Anorexia Nervosa recovery is a complicated process that takes time, and the right combination of therapeutic help and nutritional awareness. People with an eating disorder have to physically and emotionally deal with the root causes, to help build positive relationships with their body and the food they eat.

Accepting and understanding weight gain during anorexia recovery

Weight gain can be a big source of panic for someone who has spent so long controlling everything they eat — or don’t eat — and who sees the scales as the enemy no matter what number the dial lands on.

Specialists are aware that they need to be compassionate in their anorexia and recovery treatments. This means finding a way to connect with the person by balancing nutritional advice with ways of accepting weight gain during recovery, and encouraging mindful eating and healthy meal planning. Breaking these down into smaller steps can be much easier for the individual to deal with.
